Reading Update

It’s been a while since I have updated my reading list and I have made my way through quite a bit! Listening to audiobooks has kept me moving on my novels.

Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey

I’ll start with the series I’m about to finish: Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey. The link goes to the first book and there are 10 in the series, the most recent was released this past Tuesday. A friend suggested this book series and I had a little trouble getting through the first one. However, I’m really glad I did because the characters get really good. The language gets rough at times, but is offset with great bits of humor. If you like books that mix magic and religion, you’ll like these. (Full disclosure: I had to look up some of the religious references!)

Pandemic by A.G. Riddle

I picked this book up to get me through the gap until the next Sandman Slim book came out. I was a big fan of A.G. Riddle’s Origin trilogy: The Atlantis Gene, The Atlantis Plague and the Atlantis World. All tell a great story that will keep you wanting more. I decided to give Pandemic a go and have not been disappointed. Both the Origin trilogy and Pandemic have strong female leads that are well developed and enjoyable to follow. There are a number of twists and turns throughout that will make you smile.

Night Fall (Secret Histories) by Simon R. Green

Buying this book made me sad because it is the end of his Secret Histories series. The first book of the series, The Man with the Golden Torc (all the titles are James Bond parodies), was so enjoyable I burned through the series in less than a month. Then I moved on to one of his other series, The Nightside. I would recommend any book written by him. The novels are full of adventure, humor and passion. I’ve already read a couple of his new series and they are just as good. I’ll be sad to see the Drood family go, but I have a feeling I haven’t heard the last of them.

And finally…

Star Trek Prometheus – The Root of All Rage by Christian Humberg and Bernd Perplies

I haven’t started this book yet, but I saw it was out and downloaded it. So when I have finished my Simon R. Green book, this one is up. I really enjoyed the first one and am interested to see where the story is going to go.
